5 Sweet Shops For Festival Season In Mumbai

With the end of hindu Shravan month, the season of festivals begin. We all are invited by our relatives or friends to pay a visit to their Bappa or Devi, or be it a simple get together. Or sometimes we are the hosts. Do you too get confused, when it comes to buy sweets for such occasions, like I always am? Are you too bored of showing up with the same old “Son Papdi” (trick) at your relatives or friends or of serving the same sweets everytime?

Let us have a peek through some of the famous sweet shops you might try before you invite or get invited to any event.

1) PRASHANT CORNER

Started as a small sweet shop in Thane, Prashant Corner has now expanded in various parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, offering delicious sweets. The wide range of sweets offered by them are not just a treat to your taste buds, but also for your eyes. Like, for the 75th Independence day, all the sweets in the shop were tricolored with “75” piped over them.

Prashant Corner usually has various stalls along with the sweet shop. The stalls serve mouth watering chat, juices or shakes, sandwiches, and much more. They also have a separate billing counter, if you own a GST number or for B2B transactions.

2) MISHTI AFFAIR

If you are a fan for Bengali sweets, Mishti Affair is a perfect stop for you. The outlets are spread all over Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The staff is so sweet they even are ready to educate you about the products, if you have doubts, giving detailed information about the products they offer. But beware, you might end up buying everything they have in store! Rashogollar Payesh is a must try, when visiting Mishti Affair.

Look for the jaggery or Gur, which is extracted from date trees, from Kolkata.

3) SRI KRISHNA SWEETS

If you are a Mysore Pak lover, this is a place you must visit. They have branches spread over Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Sri Krishna Sweets specialize in sweets made with pure ghee. Not just sweets, they also offer delicious range of snacks, famous from parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

All the “made in ghee” products are definitely worth the calories.

4) SULEMAN USMAN MITHAIWALA

This name takes me back to my childhood. My father used to work near Fort, Mumbai and occasionally brought sweets from this shop. These cute little things melt as soon as it reaches your mouth. Located in the heart of Mumbai (click for map location), THEY DO NOT HAVE BRANCHES.

If you ask me, my personal favorites are Aflatoon and Sew Badam. The taste is so unique, you won’t forget it soon!

One of the oldest shops of Mumbai, offers a wide variety of not just sweets, but also delicious snacks from various cultures. You can definitely call it a one stop shop. Located on one of the main and busiest streets of Dadar (Click for location), they too come under “NO BRANCHES” category. One can always find a queue in front of this shop, waiting to savor the delicacies that are served here.

There is no single dish that I can claim it to be my favorite!
