Brushing our teeth is a very first and necessary process that starts our day. It helps us to have a good oral hygiene, which is pretty important so we can savor any food we love.

Around late 1930s, 1st modern day nylon brush was born and hence, started the journey of our toothbrushes. Eventually, plastic brushes were made and are surviving till date.

Doctors recommend us to change our tooth brushes every 3-4 months and hence, 1 individual uses around 4 toothbrushes per year. Does anyone know, how much time does it take for a toothbrush to completely decompose? Well, the answer is around 500-1000 years. That becomes, more than 2000 years for 4 brushes per individual per year, to completely decompose.

Doesn’t it scare you?

If it doesn’t, please be a bit sensible towards mother Earth, or atleast our future generations.

If it does, what can be done? Don’t worry, there is a whole bunch of options available in current times to switch and now, is a perfect time.

Indians traditionally used Neem or Babool tree twigs, which is a great option to be considered if you have access to it. Other option is, to use bamboo made toothbrushes.
